Training Tip: Before Meals!

Waggin Tails Training Tips: Are you having trouble getting your dog/puppy to be motivated during training even with tasty treats? Try doing your training sessions before meal time and training before you feed her. Most dogs are food motivated and I’ve found that they are much more focused when hungry.

In Mazie’s training, I am finding that teaching her to walk on a ‘loose leash” is the most challenging especially because when I go for walks with her, I really want to just enjoy our time together rather than having to work so hard to get her to focus. I came up with the idea to walk her before her meals rather than after and it worked like a charm. She is 100% more focused and motivated when hungry, and I’m finding I am enjoying our walks together because she is making quicker progress. Remember, a well-trained dog is a happy dog – but most importantly, HAVE FUN WITH YOUR DOG!

Woof!
